Audrey Jane Tarbet was born on September 27,1922 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She died on Monday July 27, 2020. Audrey was the daughter of Delmar D. Hale and Lily A. Hale. She was a WAVE Yeoman 3rd Class. She served one year (1944-45) until VE Day. She was married in uniform at Watertower Baptist Church to1st Lieutenant Conan Dorman, Army Air Corp Pilot and they had one daughter, Cheryl Lea Dorman Tarbet Dixon. Audrey attended Harris Teachers College prior to entering service. After Lieutenant Dorman’s death (1951) she married James Denver Tarbet and they had two children, James Lee Tarbet and Carol Sue Tarbet Boller. Denver passed away in 2006.
She was a substitute teacher for the Fox CVI District in Arnold, MO. She taught high school under Richard Simpson. After the children were grown she pursued a career in art. She worked under contract for Jefferson County College in Hillsboro, MO. in the Continuing Education Department teaching art to senior citizens and evening classes for adults.
She provided various art workshops throughout the U.S. Audrey saw her ultimate success in creating portraits and instructing portraiture. She painted a stunning and beautiful mural depicting the contributions of women to the Armed Services. It is located in the John Cochran Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Louis, MO.
She is survived by 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. Friday July 31, 8:00-9:00 am, then to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery for 9:30 am service. On September 27, 2020 she would have been 98 years old.
