Smith, Gerald W.

passed away January 19, 2021 at the age of 95. He was born April 22, 1925 in Pomona, MO. Upon graduation from the West Plains High School in 1943, he worked for a local dairy company.  He entered the US Army in 1945 , serving in WW11 in the Philippines and Korea. After his service, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia majoring in Food Sciences. He graduated in three years and  married Helen A Maxwell September 24, 1950 in West Plains, MO. They have two daughters, Jacqueline K. Smith of Los Angeles, CA and Stephenia A. Smith of St. Louis, MO.

His parents were Millard M. and Bessie Brown Smith of Pomona, MO. He had seven siblings, all preceding him in death:  Wayne Earl (Jack) Smith and Clara Smith, Oline Smith Richards and Dwight Richards, Rollin Smith and Sybil Vaughn Smith of West Plains, MO. Dorys Smith Clay and Dr. Garland Clay of Ardmore, OK; Allie Mae Smith Godber and Jim Godber of Scottsdale, AZ; and Dr. Kenneth E Smith and Francis Maxwell Smith, and Bob Smith and Maxine Vaughn Smith of Oklahoma City, OK.

He has many nieces and nephews, with their families scattered across the United States.

After graduating in 1950, he worked in three dairy companies before founding Stabilized Products, Inc in 1972 in St. Louis, MO. Thirty two years later, he sold this successful company and retired. He was well known in the food and dairy industry. He developed several patents related to dairy products.

He was very active in his local churches, most recently in Southminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder several times and head of education. He also volunteered in an after school program.

Services: Private graveside service was held at Sunset Burial Park of Affton, MO. Memorial service will be held at a later date. A Kutis Affton Service.
