Edward “Ed” Schmidt, 80, of St. Louis, MO passed away on June 1, 2017, from an accidental fall. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on June 10, 2017, at Trinity Soulard Lutheran Church. Viewing at the church will begin at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held at Kutis Funeral Home (10151 Gravois Road) June 9, 2017, from 1:00-4:00 pm and from 5:30-8:30 pm.

Ed was born in Nebraska on December 5, 1936. He attended Concordia University, Seward, NB. On July 15, 1959, Ed married his college sweetheart, Joyce Ann (Juers) Schmidt (1937-2003). They were married 44 years. Together, they had a son, Edward N (1960 – 2012) and daughters, Sarah & Beth. Edward N was married to Karen (St Louis, MO) and has three sons: Joel, Paul (married to Julia), & Kevin. Sarah Korinek is married to Mark (Rochester, MN) and has three children: Jacob, Rachael, and Joyce. Beth Bram is married to Greg (San Antonio, TX) and has two children: Josh (engaged to Laura Beth) and Hannah. Ed was married to Ellen Friesen (1941-2010) in 2005. Combined with Ellen’s 3 married children’s families, Ed had 15 grandchildren.

Ed’s joy in life was to follow Christ’s example and serve others. Ed was a loving husband to two wives, both with physical challenges at the end of their lives. He was an amazing role model, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his years hosting “Nana/Papa Camp”, teaching Drivers “Ed”, and chauffeuring to the airport and many other destinations. He loved volunteering, traveling, sharing meals, a glass of wine, and his St. Louis Cardinals.

Ed’s life of Christian service included teaching &/or being the principal of 5 different Lutheran grade schools. Ed retired from education to work for St. Louis Metro Lutheran Charities and from there became the President/CEO of the Lutheran Altenheim Society. Ed retired from Lutheran Senior Services in 1999.

Ed is also preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Emma Albrecht Schmidt, and siblings Rueben & Gertrude. Ed’s sister Leota (95) lives in Norfolk, NB.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Lutheran Senior Service Benevolent Care or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
