In Loving Memory

Cognata, Eileen Beverly (Nee: Schultz)

February 20, 1945 – July 11, 2020.

Eileen passed away Saturday, July 11, with her family by her side in St. Louis, MO. Eileen’s family was the center of her life. Eileen had great pride in her three children, Tony, Chrisi, and Troy, and her four grandchildren Aiden, Jenifer, Hope, and Conner, were her source of great joy. She left behind her beloved brother Wayne and four in-laws Karen,  Angela, Leonard, and Yukie.

Eileen Schultz met the love of her life Donald J. Cognata and this year marked their 55th wedding anniversary. They shared a beautiful marriage with a great love for one another. Eileen also worked as an office manager, selflessly as a schoolteacher, and was actively involved in helping others in her community.

Eileen’s greatest gifts were her generosity, optimism and delightfully humorous conversations. Eileen had a wonderful smile, an infectious laugh, and beautiful green eyes. Her loving spirit and kind heart will live on in all of those who knew her and will always be remembered.

Services: Funeral at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois on Thursday, July 16, at 10 a.m. Interment J.B. National Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, please make a charitable donation in Eileen’s name to Ascension Lutheran Church, Eileen Cognata Memorial (www.ascensionstl.com) or the charity of your choice.

  3. Eileen was a wise woman of great strength. She was always available to offer her words of wisdom and guidance, which I appreciated so very much. Her sense of humor, especially about “The Donald” always made me laugh. May her soul Rest In Peace.

  11. Don, My Friend …

Love is immortality. Love is one. Love is the whole. Love is an endless sea that you fall into. And once you fall into it, you can’t fall out.

All that we love deeply becomes a part of us. Your Eileen is gone from your sight, but never from your heart. May the cherished memories of your Eileen, and the love of family, surround you at this time and give you strength in the days ahead.

My thoughts and prayers are with you to assuage the grief of your family – BUT Grief never ends .. it changes .. it’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of Faith – It’s the price of Love …. Don may the memory of your Eileen be eternal.

  13. Don,
I remember talking to you and your lovely wife Eileen when I walked my dog
“Fawn” passed your house everyday. I remember times seeing you and Eileen sitting on the bench outside your garage on a beautiful day. I immediately sensed a picture perfect couple made for each other.

I mentioned to you that I was born and raised in St. Louis Hills and we would
engage in conversations in regard to our old neighborhoods and the people
we knew in south St. Louis.

I remember the days when you would drive by in your Grand Marquis (honk
and display a friendly wave) on your way to a double date night out with
    Dave Otten and his wife.

I considered you and beautiful Eileen as wonderful friends and I am honored
to have met the both of you. You and lovely Eileen and in my prayers.
