Phil-Born-Obituary-Headshot

In Loving Memory

Born, Phil

On Monday, October 12, 2020, Phil Born passed away at the age of 58 after battling cancer for more than year.

Beloved husband of 35 years of Lynn Born, loving father to Jacob, Zack and Lexi Born; son of Jerry and Marge Born, and brother of Bob Born and Larry (Mary) Born; son-in-law of Dorothy and the late Donald Palucci, brother-in-law of Laura (Fred) Roberson, Cindy (Jon) Anders and John (Tracy) Palucci; loving uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Born on February 15, 1962 in St. Louis to Jerry and Marge Born, Phil was the youngest of three children. Phil attended St. John Vianney High School and during his Junior year, was set up by mutual friends with Lynn Palucci for a dance. The two dated throughout high school and college at Southeast Missouri State. In college, Phil was a founding father of the Theta Xi Fraternity while also majoring in business marketing. After graduating in January, Phil married Lynn at St. Michael’s on April 13, 1985.

Throughout his life, his two passions were sports and music. During the summers he could be found playing with friends throughout Shrewsbury and on the frozen pond of Kenrick Seminary during the winters. Phil passed down his love for sports and music to his kids and took great joy being with his family. He was always part of a coaching staff and never missed a game. Every summer, the entire Born clan headed down to Montauk State Park for the annual Born Fishing Trip, continuing a tradition created by his parents. On Sundays, he played guitar at Sacred Heart – Valley Park and even formed a musical group for the church: the Holy Mackerels. He was also very involved in ACTS retreats, lending his musical talents and faith to all those involved.

Visitation will be at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton on Thursday, October 15 from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. Masks are required at the visitation The funeral will be at Sacred Heart – Valley Park on Friday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial luncheon will be held at Simpson Park immediately following the funeral. Please bring lawn chairs and your favorite Phil Born story.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phil’s name to The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital (https://www.foundationbarnesjewish.org/) and/or Hockey Fights Cancer (https://www.cancer.org/our-partners/hockey-fights-cancer.html). Friends and family may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at kutisfuneralhomes.com.

  7. I have worked with Lynn for almost 30 years. What a wonderful person Phil was. My wife, Kim, really loved him. We always tried to sit with Lynn and Phil at almost every company Christmas party we all attended over the years… and Kim always wanted to sit next to Phil. He will truly be missed.
