In Loving Memory

Wolff, Teresa Ann

Teresa Ann Placke Wolff of Fort Worth, Texas, and St. Louis, Missouri, passed away at home August 18, 2022, surrounded by family. Teresa was born in St. Louis on December 21, 1937, to Clements John Placke and Marie Brennan Placke. She graduated from Rosati-Kain High School, where her friends knew her as Terry and “cute as a button.” She was elected Senior Class President and Student Council President, was selected for Girls State, and distinguished herself as a tenacious player on the basketball team. Teresa worked summers as a counselor at Camp Don Bosco, where she was noticed by the discerning sisters of her future husband, Andrew Stratton Wolff III. Teresa and Andy were married June 7, 1958. They had seven children, to whom Teresa was a devoted and energetic mother with a gift for making even minor holidays special with themed desserts and decorations. She was a highly skilled seamstress who sewed her own fashionable wardrobe before turning her talents to her children’s clothes and eventually to her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes, which put Disney to shame. She was an accomplished cook who liked to try new recipes, a tireless advocate for Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, and the most fun Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts troop leader ever. Teresa and Andy were married for forty-nine years, many of them spent in their adopted hometown of Owatonna, MN. They enjoyed travel and socializing with friends, including their famous progressive dinners and Fourth of July parties, as well as working together at Andy’s OK Hardware, where Teresa handled ordering for the housewares department. In retirement, Teresa was an avid reader and created dolls and doll clothing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a baby-whisperer who could soothe any child with An Irish Lullaby. She will be remembered as a strong and dedicated wife, mother, and friend who did what she thought was right even when it was unpopular, and who embraced her last months on earth with grace, humor, and remarkable fortitude.

Teresa is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Stratton Wolff III, and her son, James Theodore Wolff, her sister Joan McNicholas, sister-in-law Gail Ann Placke, sister-in-law Helen Salmon, and many beloved dogs. She is survived by her children, Susan McCarville, Ann Bjelland, Elaine Wolff, Andrew Stratton Wolff IV, Mat Wolff, and Diane Wolff, as well as four in-laws whom she loved like her own: Steve McCarville, Steve Bjelland, Michael Westheimer, and Brenda Houck Wolff. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, her sister Kathleen, her brothers William and Patrick, her sister-in-law Eileen, brother-in-law Michael Wolff, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 5-7 p.m., at Kutis Funeral Home, 2906 Gravois Ave., St. Louis, MO, with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. James the Greater, 1360 Tamm Ave., St. Louis, MO, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorials may be made to VITAS Healthcare, 6100 Western Place #800, Fort Worth, TX, 76107; Rosati-Kain High School, 4389 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108; St. Mary’s School, Owatonna, MN, stmarys-owatonna.org/donate-now.

  3. Teresa was a loved classmate at Rosati-Kain High School. Although she lived in Texas she kept in touch with us over the years and came to our 50th Reunion. She will live in our hearts.
