Wagner

In Loving Memory

Wagner, Richard Virgil

Richard Virgil “RV” Wagner, 84, passed away and entered the heavenly card room on November 20, 2020.

Richard was born on December 23, 1935 and was the son of the late Virgil Eugene and Lucille (Engelhard) Wagner and stepfather, Pat Cleghorn. Rich was the oldest of four children— the late Robert Wagner, Nancy Benz, and Jeanne Fischer.

Richard married Rita Mae (Huhn) Wagner on September 12, 1959. They were together for more than 60 years. He will always be in the hearts of his children — Cynthia (Jeff) Mentel, Richard V. (Kelly) Wagner Jr., Daniel (Julie) Wagner, the late Thomas Wagner, Timothy (Bobette) Wagner, Michelle (Vernon) Brittingham, Jennifer (Steve) Settlemoir, and Christopher Wagner. He was most proud of his 28 grandchildren.

RV will be remembered for his love of Spanish Echo Farms, Sunset Country Club, Concord Village Lions Club, and many charitable organizations.

He was an incredible business man and proud owner of R.V. Wagner, Inc., Kozeny Wagner, Inc., and Pella Windows & Doors of St. Louis. He was legendary for his generosity, work ethic, wit, and charm. He made an impact on everyone he met and will be missed by many – truly a life well played!

The Wagner Family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love, and support. Let’s just have one more! God Bless America!

Services:  A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary’s High School, St. Patrick’s Center or Our Little Haven. A service of Kutis Affton Chapel.

  1. Dear Rita, family and all who knew and loved Rich,

My heart is broken having learned of Rich’s passing from my brother Ken Bartels. Rich was a dear friend and someone I respected and admired. The generosity he shared with Delta Gamma Center made a tremendous impact on blind children throughout our area. I’ll miss seeing Rich and Rita at our annual Holiday House event. Rest in peace big guy! With deepest sympathy and prayers.

  3. It saddens me to say goodbye to such a great man that always took the time to say “Hello”. He was joyful, willing to help, and was full of humor; always making me laugh. He did so much for Sunset Country Club and was a tremendous supporter of the Club’s evolving direction. He will be deeply missed, but his presence will live with us forever. My heartfelt prayers go out to the entire R.V. Wagner family.

  15. I did so much with Rich it is hard to pick out anyone thing. Remembering all the Golf trips and work we did together will be with me Forever!! My first impression of Rich was when he showed up on the first tee with the back of his shirt un-tucked and shoes untied, man we had some fun. His Love of the Lions Club rubbed off on me long ago, we worked on a lots of projects together. He would get mad at me and say if you are going Chair a committee do it right or do not take the job!! We had a world of fun together and I loved like a Brother that I never had !!!

God Bless you Ricky, your Pal Bill

  21. To the Entire Family,
I am deeply torn for your loss and will keep you all in my thoughts and Prayers. He is, and was a man, I will admire for the remainder of my days for the way he carried himself. When others asked what he was like, I would only say when I grow up I wish I could be just like him. But there will only be one Rich, and I probably wont see that record ever play out again the way he did it. I am honored to say that I had the luxury of working for him over a 40 year period with nothing but respect and admiration. He will be truly missed.
My Deepest Sympathy to you All

  35. I will remember Rich in a special way. A few years ago, Rich joined me in Michigan for a guys golf outing. After a couple of days of golf and eating out, I decided to make breakfast for the group. Eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes and drink of choice. When we started filling our plates, Rich said “where is the toast”? I ended up
toasting two sides of a hotdog bun and presenting the toast with some fine jellies. He said, it’s not rye bread but I guess this is all you have! I even served him.

From then on I referred to him and called him “King Richard”.
Very sad knowing that he is gone. Rita, Cindy and Dan, I will truly miss this special friend and there will never be another King Richard.

Rich was such an engaging person, never met a stranger and the two of you so graciously opened up Spanish Echo Farm to so many, and after Dan’s passing never left me out of the fun.
He will be missed by so many, we were blessed to know him.
I know Rich is God’s presence, I pray He will surround your family with His living care.
May your memories be endless and your grief bearable.
