Thornton, Richard T. Sr. On Wednesday, April 5, 2017,

Beloved husband to Dorothy (nee Shinabargar) Thornton for 59 years, loving dad to Terri Thornton, Rick (Debbie) Thornton, Jr., Julie (Dave) Welch. Cherished Grandpa to Jennifer (James) Sanwald, Josh (Kristin) Welch, Faith Thornton, Chelsea Thornton, Austin Thornton, and Allison Pierce and dear Great-grandpa to Nellie Jo Sanwald. Dear older brother to Don (Lydia) Thornton and Garry Thornton.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Geneva (nee Foster) Thornton, and siblings Shirley (Tim) Altvater, Craig Thornton, and Jan Thornton.

For 22 years, Rich worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad, and then spent 16 years in sales for Loram Maintenance of Way. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after completing training, reserve and standby duty at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, Fort Knox Kentucky, and Fort McCoy Wisconsin. Rich enjoyed golf for many years, and in retirement, he was a proud member of Jolly Boys.

The family is grateful for the exceptional care provided by Tina and Carol of St. Anthony’s Hospice Field Program and the staff at St. Anthony’s at de Greef Hospice House.

Services: Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. Sunday, April 9, 4-8 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 10, 10 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church (Kerth Rd.). Interment Private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice or St. Anthony’s at de Greeff Hospice House.
