In Loving Memory

Steiger, Edith Harman

92, died Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Delmar Gardens on the Green following a long and wonderful life.

Edith was born in Pocahontas, Virginia the 7th of 10 children born to Miller and Dorsie Harman. Moving to Norfolk, Virginia in her teens, she spent most of her life there and relocated to St. Louis, Missouri in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Sr. (Jim) (1993), son James Jr. (Jimmie) (2008) and nine brothers and sisters. She leaves behind a daughter, Joyce E. Steiger, a daughter-in-law, Renate Becker Steiger, a granddaughter, Patricia (Trish) Edith Steiger Miller  and a grandson, James Davis Steiger III,  and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her most dear and treasured friend of fifty years – Doris Mae Walker.

Edith met her man, Jim, at a dance in 1946. He wasn’t dancing and never did. She was attracted to his aloofness and the fact he was a man of few words. They married a few months later, and In March 1948 – Jim and Edith had a son and two years later the family was complete with the addition of a daughter. Over their many years of marriage – the fact he was a “man of few words” drove her crazy, but they were friends and lovers for almost fifty years.

Her passion was the Bible and her love of God, but the apple did not fall far from the tree. Her Mother was a Pentecostal minister and her father a good Christian man. Over her 80 year relationship with our Lord and Savior she attended many churches and never lost her faith (or at least not for very long)! She was an avid Bible reader and enjoyed singing in many church choirs over the years.

The family will receive visitors at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois, St Louis, Missouri 63123 on Saturday, June 1st at 11:00AM.  The visitation will be followed by a service at Noon also at Kutis Funeral Home.  There will be a private burial at Sunset Memorial Park.
