Souder, Howard Franklin “Frank”

Howard Franklin “Frank” Souder, age 85, of St. Louis, MO passed away Friday, February 23, 2018.

He was born November 23, 1932 to the late Ella Mae Howard and Florian Souder.

A graduate of the Ammunition Supply Specialist School of the Ordnance Replacement Center, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., Private Souder entered the Army June 30, 1953.

Frank lived a long, happy Christian life and, in fact, he never met a stranger. In addition to being an Army veteran, he retired after a long career as a Railroad Engineer and was active as a Mason and Shriner. He loved nature, fishing and Bible study. He was passionate about fellowship, preserving Lake Cumberland, KY, for future generations and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

He is survived by his five daughters and husbands – Brenda (Marc) Poehner, Theresa Dowdy, Debra (Bill) Wannstedt, Rhonda (Matt) Liesenfeld and Nadine (Mike) O’Reilly, plus their mother, Aileen Souder. Additionally survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren! He has three “bonus” grandchildren and eight “bonus” great-grandchildren through marriages.

Surviving siblings include two brothers and one sister – David (Lori) Souder, Gary (Carol) Souder and Diane (Ambrose) Whaley, plus four stepsons – Ron (Bonnie) Harley, Don Harley, Gary Harley and Robert Gulley and their children.

A private Memorial Service will be held at Harbor Chapel of Cape Albeon Retirement Community in St. Louis, Mo. on Thursday, March 1.

Funeral Services will be held at McDonald and New Funeral Home, Owenton, Ky., with Visitation on Friday, March 9 at 5:00 p.m.  Services are Saturday, March 10 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at the Owenton IOOF Cemetery. Frank will be laid to rest among family members and his wife of 35 years, Florence J Souder.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
