In Loving Memory

Shinn, Catherine Aileen “Catie”

Born May 30, 1955 to the late Homer and Reba Delap Shinn, Catie is survived by five siblings: Becca Holcomb (Dan) of Winfield, KS; Emily Shinn (Kirk Estell) of Freeland, WA; Phillip Shinn (Anne) of St. Louis, MO; David Shinn (Connie) of Quincy, IL, and Tom Shinn (Colleen) of Redondo Beach, CA.  She is a loving sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend of many.

Catie was an involved and caring individual. She will be missed by many people who have benefited from her ministries.  An Associate of the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet, she was also an active volunteer in prison ministry, and she brought Communion to nursing homes. A member of Veterans for Peace, she participated at vigils at St. Francis Xavier College Church.

Catie worked 28 years at the Missouri Dept of Social Services serving the poor. She represented her colleagues in the Missouri State Workers Union (Communication Workers of America Local 6355), as Secretary/Treasurer. An active representative in the Missouri Jobs with Justice Coalition, she worked for labor, social justice, and peace, to the point of being arrested in a peaceful protest in 2002.

Catie proudly served 11 years in the U.S. Army as a Captain.  The first woman commissioned in the ROTC program at Arkansas Tech University in 1977, she is a proud alumnus of Arkansas Tech and Kansas State University.
