Scego, James “Jim”

 

James “Jim” Scego, 73, passed away while in the comfort of his family on February 16, 2019. He was born in Palo Alto, California on January 3, 1946 to the late James and Lorene (Bieber) Scego.

Spending most of his life in St Louis, he was married to his childhood sweetheart, the late Rose Marie “Rosie” (Nesslein) for 44 years where they were blessed with daughter, Susan (Scego) and husband John Borghi; son, Michael and wife Samantha (Marvin), granddaughters Maria (Borghi) and husband Sean Coveleski, Nicole Borghi, Sofia Scego and Annabel Scego.

Jim’s love of service to his country was reflected by his 4 years as a medic in the US Navy followed by a 33-year career in law enforcement with the St Louis Metropolitan Police Department. While serving as a courageous first responder, he spent a great deal of his time in the Homicide Division and as the Commander of the Crimes Against Persons Division. He was a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico. He retired from the Police Department as a Lieutenant in 2002.

In 2013, he married Jenna (Horchem) and was blessed with stepchildren, Shad and Arlene Horchem, Marsha Wells, and Grady Horchem and step grandchildren, Drew, Janae, Rob, Jerry, Zachery, Emma and Keva, as well as step great grandchildren, Katelynn and Connor.

He enjoyed golfing, watching old western movies and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.

Jim is also survived by his sisters, Joyce (Scego) Meredith, Betty (Scego) and John Chase and Sandy (Scego) Allen, and by his sisters in laws as well as many nieces and nephews. Jim leaves behind many lifelong friends and a group that meant so much to him; the Jolly Boys.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd.  Committal Services will be at  Jefferson Barracks at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 (meeting at J.B. Office) with full military honor guard services.
