We celebrate the life of Arthur Dale Preston, Jr, 67, who went to be with his heavenly father on January 8, 2021. Dale grew up in Normandy and went on to graduate from Country Day School in 1972 and the University of Missouri Columbia in 1976. He was the founder and owner of Preston Art Glass Studio in St. Louis where his creativity and craftsmanship will forever grace many homes and lives. Dale’s faith in Christ was very important to him and he strived to reflect Christ in his everyday life. His humility, generosity, kindness and love was evident to all.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Dale Preston, Sr and Helen (Beffa) Preston. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Gwynneth (Megahan) Preston, and loving children Hannah Preston (m. Adam Hon), Nahum Preston (m. Abby), Elias Preston (m. Lauren), Jacob Preston (m. Bridget), Rebekah Preston (m. Isaac Porch), Nathanael Preston (m. Carissa), DeMarcus Preston and DeAndre Preston. He was the loving and caring grandfather of 13 grandchildren. Dale also leaves in his grace three loving siblings. He was a wonderful cousin, uncle, friend, teacher, and mentor to many. Their lives have been made better because of his influence and love. He will be forever missed.
A private service will be held on Friday January 15th.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association or Southgate Church STL – missions in Dale’s memory.
Dale was one of the kindest, gentlest men I’ve ever known…He showed a true Father’s heart in both the way he raised his children, and in the way he loved the Lord. We are thankful that we had the chance to know him and to love him and his family…
Our beloved brother-in-law will be missed, but we know that his new life in Christ will give him peace and rest.
It was a blessing and joy to know Dale. I’m so thankful that God placed him in my life, and for the time I had with him.
God’s blessings on Aunt Gwyn and my Preston cousins during this difficult time.
Dearest Gwyn, My heart brakes for you and ALL your beautiful family. You and Dale were a most powerful & dynamic couple that reflected God’s presence in our hurting world. I have not seen you for many years but I will never forget the impression and impact you and Dale have made on my life. I believe Dale ran straight into the arms of Jesus upon his departure. My love and prayers are with you and the entire family,
Peggy Clarke Hollabaugh
To the entire Preston family, knowing Dale was a very pleasant experience in my life, always a smile and a kind word.
Dale, the first memory I have of you was as flower girl at your wedding. Since then, I recall your quiet, loving presence at family gatherings. Have a blessed journey into the Light.
I send thoughts and blessings to all who will miss you.
Holding you all in my heart and prayers.
Dale was a wonderful man who showed patience and kindness to everyone he met. I appreciate the kindness and loving welcome he and Gwyn extended to my daughter, Lauren, and to me over the last eleven years. What a wonderful, loving family the Preston’s are. I know Dale will be greatly missed by them, his extended family and all who knew him.
Prayers for comfort and peace to Gwyn and all her family.
My condolences to you and your family, Gwyn. You were just here telling me about him! I’m so very sorry for you. God rest his soul.
May God Bless & Keep You In His Arms. You Were A Kind & Loving Spirit, & I Was Privileged To Have Known You & Be A Part Of Your Extended Family.
A true stained glass artist and craftsman! Dale’s creatvity, wit, artistry and master craftsmanship will long be remembered!
May he prayerfully rest on peace—and may all of you be consoled!
My Uncle was such a big part of my summers growing up. He was always kind and creative. My husband got to meet him a few years ago and always wanted to go back to St. Louis to learn more about his glass business. Dale was very easy to latch on to and always a joy to be around.
Dearest Gwyn,
Dale was the gentlest spirit I have ever known and the perfect match for you. I can see you two on your wedding day so vividly. And I totally agree that he surely rushed into Jesus’ awaiting arms. Don and I have you and your family in our hearts . Love so much.
Our heartfelt prayers to the Preston family and all who knew this gentle man. It was always a pleasure talking with Dale at family gatherings.
We love the unique and beautiful artwork that Preston glass is known for and it will be a reminder of the hard work and the love for art that Dale pored into it.
Peace and healing,
