Nowotny, Virginia “Ginny”

Asleep in Christ Jesus!

St. Louis — Virginia Ellen Louise Nowotny ((nee) Geisler a long-time resident of the South St. Louis  area and Salem Lutheran Church Of Affton died Thursday the 2nd of May 2019.

Born in June 19, 1922 in Herculaneum Missouri.  Ginny moved to St Louis and during WWII worked at the Brown Shoe Company. Ginny met Charles John Nowotny and married him on June 1, 1944 while he was serving in the Army Air Force in Pinellas Florida.

After the war ended Chuck and Ginny lived in Jefferson Barracks near the North Gate and they attended Peace Lutheran Church and school in Lemay.  On  the passing of Chas father in 1951 the family moved to  Mississippi & Allen Ave with Chuck’s widowed Mother Molly.  They attended Emmaus Lutheran Church and school until they purchased a home in 1952 on Adkins Avenue west of River des Peres Near Morganford in Boulevard Heights, So.St. Louis.  There they raised  five children. Ginny and her family were all members of Salem Lutheran Church Affton and all of her 5 children attended Salem Lutheran school.

Ginny loved to  serve her family great food, Ginny enjoyed Grants Farm, the Admiral, the St. Louis cultural museums and  family picnics. Virginia loved Classical Music and composted and singing Christian Hymns.   Ginny socialized with members of various church groups and enjoyed  having long time friends over to play pinochle and various card games.  Virginia (Gramma Ginny) was a great, unbeatable scrabble opponent and she  loved the game “Kings in the Corner.”

Ginny had a wonderful smile that could light up a room and sometimes an unexpected and unusual sense of humor.

Virginia is survived by her children Chuck (Charlene) Nowotny ,  California.  James (Kathy) Nowotny, Upstate New York, Nancy E. Nowotny Colorado,  Dr Thomas J. (Jody) Nowotny Chesterfield and Laura Ruth Watson (Gary) Chesterfield. Ginny leaves  8 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren all of whom live from Southern California, to Virginia, to Upstate New York, to Tennessee, the Greater St.Louis area.  They all brought great joy to her later years.

A private viewing will be held at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel

314-842-4458 on May 7, 4:00-5:00 followed by  a public viewing from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.

A memorial Service will be held at Salem Lutheran Church 8343 Gravois Road Saint Louis, MO 63123 on May 8. There will be a viewing from 9 am til 10:00. A service at 10:00 am.  Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 11:15.

What can be said about a lady from Herculaneum Missouri that has around 50 offspring living from Virginia to Southern California and from Buffalo to Nashville. After 96 years she has finally gone home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
