Roberta Yvonne Morris, daughter of Ervin and Ferne (née Miller) Maess, was born October 2, 1947, in Paducah, Kentucky. During infancy she was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran, Metropolis, Illinois, where she also confirmed her faith on Palm Sunday 1961. She graduated from Metropolis High School in 1965 and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Murray State University in 1969. In 1984, she received her Master of Arts from Northeast Missouri State University.

On June 8, 1969, at St. Paul Lutheran, she married Douglas Thomas Morris with whom she enjoyed 53 years in the nuptial estate. Yvonne is survived by her husband Doug, daughter Heather (Richard) Shade, sister-in-law Jean (Bob) Gross, nephew Bobby Gross, and niece Paige Taylor.  Yvonne is further survived by other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

As a career educator, in 1969, Yvonne taught at Null Elementary School, where she remained until 1971. From 1978 to 1985, she taught Social Studies at St. Charles West High School, and from 1985 to 1992, she taught English for the Windsor Junior and Senior High Schools. In 1992, she moved to the Mehlville School District as a Librarian at Margaret J. Buerkle Middle School, and beginning in 1998, she served as Director of Learning Resources/Instructional Technology in the Mehlville School District until her retirement in 2012. In 2005, Yvonne was selected by the Missouri Association of School Librarians for the 2005 Friend of School Libraries Award. In announcing this selection, Yvonne was praised for her exemplary service to the Library Media Specialists and the Library Media Centers in the Mehlville School District.

In 1987, Yvonne and her family became members of Peace Lutheran Church where their membership has remained. Prior to her membership at Peace, she was a member of Hope Lutheran and Our Savior Lutheran in St. Charles and Immanuel Lutheran in Crystal City. In her previous affiliations she taught Sunday school, served on Altar Guild and while at Hope Lutheran, served lunch to Senior Citizens.

Yvonne and Doug loved to travel. One mode of travel was on cruise ships. They traveled on five continents and to over 100 countries. She was a great cook, homemaker, and crafter. She and friends made quilts for veterans. Yvonne and Heather baked during the Christmas season. They made wonderful trays and tins of Christmas cookies, cakes, breads, and candies for their family and friends.

Yvonne enjoyed good health until experiencing cervical spinal difficulties which prompted her surgery on August 1, at St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital, which though successful, was likely followed by a heart attack, which resulted in her passing on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 8:11 a.m. Yvonne attained the age of 74 years and 10 months.

Yvonne and I were colleagues for several years when we worked in the Mehlville School District.
She was always so capable and pleasant to work with. She had high standards for the program and was a true professional.
We had some good laughs through the years and I will always remember her
    fondly.

  39. Doug, Heather, and Rich,
My deepest condolences to each of you. I always loved the pictures you posted of the great times you shared so lovingly together. This kept us Canadian family in the loop with each of you.
I first met Yvonne at the Maess Reunion in 1996 in Saskatchewan and Mom always stayed in touch. Then I had the opportunity to travel to St. Charles through work and stay with her and Doug. Yvonne was a wonderful and kind person who loved to have fun.
She had many talents but her quilting and sewing projects were my favorite. We had quilting in common and she has many of her projects on display in her home.
Yvonne will be deeply missed as she was such a devoted wife, mother and mother-in-law and friend. You are in our thoughts.
