In Loving Memory

Meyers, Dennis Melven

78, of O’Fallon, formerly of St. Charles, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning, February 14, 2021. He was born April 21, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Melven and Anne Meyers. He graduated from Affton High School in 1960 and from the University of Missouri-Rolla (Missouri S&T) in 1965.  Dennis married the love of his life, Linda Sue Graham, on August 24, 1963. Together with their two children, they lived across the Midwest as Dennis pursued a career in metallurgical engineering at General Motors, ultimately settling in Michigan in 1980.  After 39 years with GM, Dennis retired, and he and Linda happily relocated back to the St. Louis area. Dennis had a great love for his family, always putting them first. Two of his favorite hobbies were golf and serving his church, and he enjoyed both very much. Dennis was confirmed as an adult in 1976, and from that point forward, used his God-given talents for administration and his desire to serve his church and others in numerous ways. He served in the choir, as an elder, and lay leader in several congregations in Michigan and at Our Savior Lutheran in St. Charles, where he really enjoyed his Friday morning Bible study.

Dennis is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Linda; son David (Holly); daughter Amy (Paul) Lucker; sisters, Barb (Jess) Altenbernd and Mary Meyers; sisters-in-law, Sally Graham and Janet (Joel) Brett; grandchildren Sophia Meyers, Donovan and Amanda Lucker, and many nieces and nephews and their families, whom Dennis also loved very much.  Due to Covid, private family services will be held.  Memorials may be sent to the Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2800 Elm Street, St. Charles, MO 63301. 7. Dennis Meyers was great blessing to me and my young family in Saginaw. I had the pleasure of knowing him at GM Central Foundry as well as Holy Cross Lutheran. At both work and church, Mr Meyers had a ready smile and laugh, but a focus to get the job at hand done. I respected Mr Meyers position of leadership and think of him as an example of a good and faithful Christian man. Someone to watch and emulate. I thank God of for the time I had with Dennis Meyers in my life and morn his passing.

He was instrumental in my passion for metal castings as I started my career at the Danville plant, and I always enjoyed the years of working with him in All of the Central Foundry plants.

  13. Dennis was a wonderful guy in so many ways….It was always a blessing to be with him in Bible study on Friday morning. My love and my heart go out to Linda and her family for their (our) loss. I send a special hug to Linda as Dennis always spoke of her being the greatest blessing in his life, and it is always easy to see why. Knowing that he is with Jesus….and Don Popp and Judi…is good, but it still hurts not having him here with us. May that peace of God which goes beyond all understand give you the strength to go forward. With Love,

  17. We are sad hearing the bad news. Dennis was Nancy’s director when she started her career in General Motors. Dennis is a great leader and very nice person. Our family always deeply appreciate what he did for us when Nancy’s mother was very sick in China. With the help from Dennis, she was able to spend time with her mom at her mother’s difficult time. GM is not only a company for our career, but also a place we feel the care and kindness. We work at GM for the entire career because of the great leaders like Dennis and nice people at work place.

Sorry for your loss. Dennis will always be in our heart.

  19. Wishing you peace and memories to see you through this difficult time. I worked with Dennis at GM. As a student, I would get to work very early to get time on one of the few computers at Malleable Foundry. Dennis was one of the few to beat me to the front door. He was a hard-working man with a big heart; it is because of people like him that I enjoy working at GM. I will not forget how he took time to sit down with me, ask questions and really listen. Nor will I forget his kindness, leadership and his big voice. It was the voice of a good leader. (We could always hear you coming, Dennis!)

  21. My wife and I were very saddened to hear of Dennis’s passing. He was a good man to work for and to work with. To me, he was especially notable for presenting the scientific facts of a situation to top level GM corporate officers, even when it was contrary to what they wanted to hear and he knew it. I recall three instances of this in the last ten years I worked with him. You could never say Dennis did not have a backbone. He did and then some.

Our condolences go to Linda and his family.

  25. I was privileged to work with Dennis Meyers during the last ten years of my GM career. Simply put, he was a good and decent man. One characteristic of Dennis, above all others, was his insistence on science and facts to make his point. I recall several instances where he had to present unwelcome developments to top Corporate executives. He stood his ground when under pressure to change his position. No one can claim he lacked a backbone, an increasingly rare commodity these days. He had one and then some!

Our condolences go out to Linda and family.

  27. Linda, David and Amy, our hearts go out to you as you give back to God the gift he gave to you, and so many, for these 78 years. Dennis was a friend, a joy, and a true inspiration as he shared his many spiritual insights with our Friday morning Bible study group. I can’t help but add that much of those insights he attributed to you, Linda. You truly were the love, and wonder of his life. We will miss him. All our love, Pastor Ed and Judy

  29. My deepest sympathy to Linda and the family.

I knew Dennis for a number of years and worked for him when we were both in Saginaw. I have many fond memories of him. One short story. There was a cutback across many areas in GM. In Dennis’ area, he had to reduce salary headcount by 10. The 10 were to be laid-off. Dennis took it upon himself and using his contacts, he found all 10 another position in other areas of the company. I always knew he was a good leader but watching him go to bat for his people demonstrated how good a man he really was.

    Rest in peace Dennis.
