  3. Doug was wonderful , always willing to volunteer where needed, led the hiking group to places they would never go alone.
He was a true gentleman. A great example of how to live a truly full, rich happy life, not wasting any time.
He will be a great addition to the “Happy hunting grounds in the sky” or with God’s angels.

  9. I had the pleasure of working with Doug Melville in his role as Sierra Club Outings Committee Chair – he was an exemplary leader, always prepared, always prompt, always doing his best. His dedication is responsible for many of us to learn about wild spaces in Missouri that we would otherwise not have experienced. My condolences to the family.

  13. I am saddened to learn of Doug’s death. I trust that God has brought him home quickly to be with his wife and extended family. I worked with Doug for many years at MDC/Boeing. We had many good years together. Doug tried to teach me patience during our time together but I still struggle with having patience.

I pray that God comforts Doug’s family at this difficult time.

  15. My Uncle Doug was one of the kindest people I have ever met. I always remember being so excited when him and Aunt Rosanne would pick up Jenny, Christy, and I from dance. They would always take us to Dairy Queen. Whenever I was with them I was always happy and having fun. I pray for Jenny and her family now for this tremendous loss.

  19. So very sorry for your loss…everyone loved Doug.

We all had so much fun on the hikes, and he was in the habit of buying appetizers for everyone at all the new places he enjoyed finding!

We greatly appreciated his so kindly ways and enormous patience. And he laughed when we asked that there please be no “bonus miles”

Some may be less aware of his time spent on conservation causes and the great efforts he made. Like many of this generation he realized the mistakes that needed more attention.
    Thank you Doug.

  21. Doug was kind, generous and a true gentleman. I had the privilege of working with him for many years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. Always ready to lend support and a helping hand, he exemplified the meaning of the phrase “salt of the earth”.

I was surprised and saddened to learn of his death but I am confident that he was welcomed into heaven and told “Well done, good and faithful servant”.

My condolences to his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

  25. Doug served with me as an army medic in Berlin Brigade in 1971. More than anyone else, he was friends with everyone in our platoon. In his quiet way, he was the natural leader among us whenever the “real” leadership was lacking, and we missed him after he rotated home.

My condolences to his family and friends.

  27. So sorry for the loss of a wonderful gentleman. I always learned something about the area or history on Doug’s well planned hikes. He reminds me of Mr Rogers – always taking the time to listen to you carefully. I am honored to have hiked with him.

Doug was a true gentleman who quietly lived his full life as a man for others. He is now reunited with his beautiful Rosanne. I am sure that they are both up in heaven, smiling down on all of us.

  35. What a great guy and hiking leader – he was so thorough with his hikes: hiked upcoming trail in advance even if it meant going a distance and he had something interesting so say about the area. He really looked after our well-being and mental attitude. Missed him when he left us to go to FL and will greatly miss him now. My condolences
