Mayer, John Peter

Mayer, John Peter Passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019. John was born August 11, 1930 in Klek, Yugoslavia to Michael and Catherine (nee Dekold) Mayer. He immigrated to the United States on  January 22, 1947 and was a proud member of the United States Army. He married Maria (nee Gauges) on  October 22, 1955. Together they owned and worked at Mayer’s Pastries, the iconic German bakery in South St. Louis. He will always be known as “The Baker”.  He is survived by his children, S. Juanita (Tom)  Robel, Joseph (Rachelle Lay), K. Rita (Mark) Crombie, Edmund (Kay Kaps), and 8 grandchildren Eric, Ryan (Amanda Barrett), Andrea (Sam) Pyne, Ethan, Melissa, Jacob, Adam and Hannah; 4 great-grandchildren Elisa, Mia, Watson and Chloe. John is preceded in death by his wife Maria, his sister  Susanna, and his brother H. Michael. The family would like to thank the staff at Delmar Gardens of Meramec Valley for the care they have  provided to John in these last few years.

Services: Visitation at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., Saturday, February 9, 10:00 a.m. until funeral at 12:00 Noon. Services conclude at funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the  Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
