I’m so grateful to have met such a wonderful soul in your “Pop Pop” and just last week, had the chance to say hello from Minnesota on your “burger night.” Such a sweet smile and tender heart in a man who loved God and served his Country.
Peace be with all of you,

  19. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to have known Dan Marshall. He was considered by many to be a rather quiet man. You can speak softly when your towering strengths of Faith in God, Adoration of Family, Love of Life, Utter Selflessness, Charity, Humility, Quick Irish Wit, and a Deep Endearing Love of Kathleen do your speaking for you. I will forever be in his debt as an exemplary example of what a Father and Husband is. A person could spend the rest of their days aspiring to be Dan Marshall and although unattainable for most, it would be a life worth living. The lessons he taught me are immeasurable. I’ve called him “Danno” since I met him but what I should have been calling him was Dad. Godspeed Dad. Until we meet again.

Your family is on my heart and in my prayers. I only got to meet your dad in person a few times during our college years but I feel we all got to know him through that contagious smile of his and all the wonderful family stories you would share. I only smile when I hear the last name “Marshall” because it reminds me of your great family from St. Louis!

  33. Kay and Family, My deepest sympathy to all. Dan was a special friend for over 40 years. One of my greatest memories was seeing Dan at the store on a Saturday, buying candy for the kids, usually chocolate covered cherries. He would always grin and laugh telling how excited the family would be when he arrived back home with the candy. I’ve never eaten chocolate covered cherries since, that I don’t think of Dan and the happiness his Family brought to him. He was One in a Million. Love and Blessings to all! Bev Ehlers

Our deepest sympathy to all of you. Dan always had a smile on his face and twinkle in his eye. The last time I saw him he told me story after story of my Dad and their golf outings. It was so much fun and we laughed so hard. I imagine they are reunited and already playing a round of golf. Lots of prays and love.

  41. Our deepest and sincerest sympathy to Kay and the entire Marshall family. Dan was my unit supervisor when I first started working at the Corps of Engineers (1968). We were a tight nit group of guys who worked well together and enjoyed what we were doing and Dan was the ideal team leader. Had some good memories of my time at the Corps and working with Dan and the guys ranks at the top. Coincidently, my daughter Christine and Dan’s daughter Molly were classmates at St. Joseph’s Academy.

  43. It was with great sadness to hear of Dans passing. Certainly our loss is heavens gain but for those of us that love Dan and family there is of course pain and sadness. I have known Dan almost all of my life and always found him to be such a joy to be around. His smile lit up the room and he always tried to get you smiling with one of his many jokes. The best part of Dan though was the amazing family that he and Kay created. By that measure he is a man of incredible wealth. Your legacy is secure Dan. We are all much better for knowing you.

His generosity knew no bounds and he wasn’t shy about helping anyone who needed a hand. I am extremely honored to share a name with such a great man who has positively impacted so many people. I will always remember his laugh, his voice, and the stories my mom has told me about who he was and the great things he has done for his family and the people he cared about.

When I was a little girl he taught me how to ride a bike, squirted me with the hose on a hot summer day, took me to the movies – in short he was always there for me. He was always there for everyone. He was the most selfless man who adored his family. He had the best smile and laugh – always had a joke or an Irish song. My memories of him and all he taught me will be with me forever.

Living 1200 miles away in Boston hasn’t diminished the positive impact that Dan and Kay’s examples of inner strength, character, selflessness, generosity, work ethic, joy in living, and loving devotion to family and friends have had on our entire family. Together they raised such wonderful children, and their example taught us how to become better people, parents, friends, and partners. With his wonderful large family and untold loving friends, Dan’s legacy will make this world a better place far into the future.

To try to describe what he meant to all who had the pleasure and blessing to know him and to love him, is impossible. He was caring, comforting, funny and genuine. A better man and true example of what a son, brother, father and husband should be, there could never be. He was truly an extraordinary person. Just an honor to have had him as my brother.
