passed away in his home at age 90 years, 11 months, and 2 days, with his two loving children at his side on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Going before him to their heavenly home were his loving wife, Margaret T (nee Boyer) Lyles and infant son, Gary Lynn Lyles.  Also preceding him in death were Barney’s parents Walter and Jessie (nee Bailey) Lyles Kiefer; stepfather, Lawrence Kiefer; and five of Barney’s siblings:  Merl Lyles (Almetta), Maude Johnson (Jim), Walter Lyles, Jr. (Ruby), Martha Jean Goodwin (Harold), June Gregory (Wayne) and Donald Lyles (Janet).

Barney was the dear father of Tim Lyles and Rebecca M. Thomas (Herb Anderson); grandfather of Jordan M. Lyles and Bryan D. Lyles; special friend of Jerry Irby and Michelle McBride; best friend of grandpuppy Maggie.  Barney is also survived by one sister, Judy Elders (Jimmy) and many nieces and nephews.

Born on June 16, 1928, in Rector, Arkansas, after working at French’s Service Station in Rector, Barney moved to Missouri.  He worked at Century Electric in St. Louis and after 30 years of service at General Motors, he retired from working for others.  Barney was an avid gardener who also enjoyed square dancing and tinkering around the house (or the Cedars Mobile Home park which he owned in Irondale) by painting, remodeling, and doing routine maintenance.  Barney was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, St. Agnes Parish, Neighborhood Pride (service organization) and the Park Hills Senior Center.

 

Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. on Thursday, June 6 from 10:30  a.m. until service at 11:30. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation, the Pink Sisters, or BJC Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
