In Loving Memory

Lifka, Catherine M. “Kitty”

September 1, 2018

Catherine “Kitty” Lifka, 87, beloved wife for 66 years to Raymond J. Lifka, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018. She was the loving mother of Kim Rogers (and Drew), Raymond Lifka, and Todd Lifka (and Yuen Yee); grandmother to Holly, Raymond Jr., and Mila Lifka; great-grandmother to Raymond John, III.  She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Catherine and Anthony Matteis, as well as her siblings: Dolores Kane, Ginger Massari, and Joe Matteis, whom she missed every day.

Catherine was born in Hartford, CT eventually moving to St. Louis, MO. Catherine (Kitty) loved music.  Her favorite musician and band leader was Stan Kenton. She played the piano and loved to dance.  She sang with a trio when she was younger and enjoyed the dance halls.  She even became a dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Studios.  Later she was passionate about patriotism, politics, and raising her family to be good Christians and human beings.  She loved the English language and was emphatic about using correct grammar.  She excelled at spelling both forward and backwards (just for fun).   She was an Executive Secretary for many years and worked for companies like Fuller Brush and Heublein Liquor.  She understood people and had a head for business and negotiation.  She served on the Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association, which included planning events like the Bike-A-Thon.

Her laughter and wit will be truly missed. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gerard Majella Church located at the corner of 1971 Dougherty Ferry Road and Ballas in Des Peres, MO 63122.
