Gary-James-1

In Loving Memory

James, Gary Lynn

73, died peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saint Louis on September 24, 2020. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he spent time at his local VFW and serving at his church.
Gary was born on August 4, 1947 in Saint Louis to Alphonse and Virginia James. In 1966, he joined the Army and completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before serving in Vietnam as a Private First Class in the 62nd Engineer Battalion until he was honorably discharged in 1968.

Gary was a hard worker, spending most of his career installing carpeting and flooring and was a member of the local carpenters union. He resided in Maplewood, and upon retirement, he enjoyed sitting on his porch talking with neighbors, going to the country to wade in the lake, and taking care of his fish in a pond he had made in his backyard.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Kay Lynn.

On September 15, 2019, Gary was baptized at Crossroads Presbyterian Fellowship in Maplewood, where he had been attending for over a year. This was a special day for him, as he had been drawn by the grace of God to follow his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was dedicated to his church, volunteered with projects, attended worship service regularly, and was faithful in his small group and men’s discipleship group. He continued to grow in his knowledge and faith, looking to care for others, and praying with joy for God’s work in his life.

A memorial service will take place at Crossroads Presbyterian Fellowship, located at 2640 Oakview Terrace in Maplewood, on Friday, October 2 at 3:00 pm. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s YouTube page. His remains will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks at a later date.
