In Loving Memory

Hasek, Chester Allen

Chester Allen Hasek was born Nov. 9, 1926, passed away Jan. 3, 2020. Preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Mae & Anthony Paul Hasek of St. Louis, MO. and his Beloved wife, Virginia L. Hasek.  Dear father of Sandra Perkins, Christopher and Andrew Hasek. Dear grandfather of Erin Hasek. Dear father-in-law to Denise Hasek and Susan Hasek. Dear cousin, friend and neighbor.

Chester was born at the old City Hospital in St. Louis. He attended Mason elementary school, Southwest High School and then on to the U.S. Navy to finish World War II in the south Pacific. He was assigned to LST 847 in early 1945 and went to the south Pacific to support in Okinawa, Saipan and Truk invasions. Then on to assist repatriation of Chinese citizens after the surrender and then back to San Francisco in 1946.

He and Virginia married in 1950 and started a family in 1951. They moved into their one and only home on Charrette Drive in 1956. He started working at Magic Chef, Emerson Electric, Enthone metallurgy and then back to Emerson Electric where he retired with 30 years of service in 1991.

He was very proud of being a member of the greatest generation and being part of the war effort.  He was an Honor Flight recipient and when someone thanked him for his service to the country, he always followed with, “We did our jobs…”

He answered the call to community service in his later years. He was proud of serving the USO, local voting polls, American Legion Post 111, and shared his WWII experience at local high school history classes.

He was a Do-it-yourselfers do-it-yourselfer! With the help of his father, his cousin Paul and other friends, he finished out his basement, built a swimming pool, repaired his cars, built various projects “suggested” by Virginia and used his survival skills to keep a comfortable well-maintained home in Sunset Hills Estates.

He and Virginia traveled the world extensively in post-retirement life. He was also a long-time avid vegetable gardener and supplied his neighbors and friends with his legendary tomatoes.

Services: Visitation: Kutis Affton Chapel, Monday Jan. 6, 6pm – 8pm. Funeral Service at Kutis Affton Chapel Tuesday Jan. 7, 10 a.m.
