George Donald Hack, 92, formerly of Chicago, Illinois and Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on September 28, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri, after a brief illness. He was born on September 17, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of George Andrew and Grayce (Nickell) Hack, who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on July 23, 1955, in Florida to Pauline Ann Neutzler, who also preceded him in death in 2016. They met in Jefferson City, Missouri. He attended Tilden Technical High School, graduating in 1944. He graduated from Eastern Illinois State College in Charleston, Illinois, in 1949 with a BS in Education. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1953 with a Master of Science degree majoring in Geography. George was employed with the Missouri Division of Resources and Development, Florida Geological Survey, The Fantus Company, Jefferson City Park Board, The Bank Building Corporation and lastly, his favorite position and from which he retired, PGAV in downtown St. Louis. At age 80, George returned to work after retirement as a bagger at Schnucks and a sales associate at Dillard’s. George, Pauline and family lived in Florida, Illinois, Jefferson City and St. Louis, Missouri. The family settled in Oakville, Missouri in 1974 where they continued to reside until Pauline’s passing in 2016. Since that time, George lived at Garden Villas South retirement community in South St. Louis County.  George was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Oakville, Missouri. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Knights of Columbus, a former member of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Council and served as an usher at St. Francis of Assisi. He enjoyed spending time with his family, was a photographer, and published over 200 articles as well as a book related to his expertise in planning and economic development. He was a prolific writer of articles in Area Development magazine.

George is survived by his family including his five children and seven grandchildren. The family includes: Ronald (Barbara) Hack of St. Louis, Kathy (Edward) Vitela of Jefferson City, Mary (Steve) Erickson of Jefferson City, Melissa “Missy” (partner Jim Biggs) Hack-Thomas of St. Louis, and George Hack II (Vicky) of Lake Saint Louis; and his grandchildren Christopher Hack, Jessica (Hack) Jordan (Preston), Scott Matthew George Hack, Nathan Erickson, Nicholas Erickson, Caitlin Sterman (Hack) and Evie Georgia Hack; and cousins.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 am on Oct. 6, 2018, at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church, Oakville, Missouri. Family will receive friends and family in St. Louis from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Oct. 5, 2018, at Kutis Funeral Home located at 5525 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri. A prayer service and burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Jefferson City, on Oct. 6, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Oakville, Missouri or to Notre Dame High School in St. Louis, Missouri.
