In Loving Memory

Geter, Jewel

Geter, Jewel age 97, passed away quietly on October 30, 2015, at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Fenton, Mo. She was born on August 19, 1918. Her early years were spent in Shreveport, La. with her parents, Charles and Gertrude (Black) Rudolph. She described herself as a tomboy with aspirations to become a trapeze artist. She was valedictorian of her high school class and subsequently graduated business school. She was married on short notice to A.W. Doc Geter while he served in the Merchant Marines. They established a family of five children as they lived in Baton Rouge, La, Denham Springs, La, and Montgomery, Al. The family moved to St. Louis in 1954. Jewel was dedicated to providing her children the best opportunities for education in both academics and music. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a charter member of Crestwood Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She recalled looking out from the choir loft at her five children in the second pew on Sundays. The children would not even think of misbehaving under her watch. After her children were older, she obtained a real estate brokers license and worked for Koch Construction Co. in St. Louis. Jewel Geter was known by all as generous and unselfish. She would always provide words of encouragement and would celebrate others’ success. She will be remembered for the warmth of her smile, her kindness, and her firm handshake. Her favorite role in this life was being a mother. She is predeceased by her parents, by her brother, Troy Rudolph, by her husband, by her daughter, Judith Lavin, by three brothers in law, and three sisters in law. Among the many family and friends celebrating her life are her children, Rudolph Geter (Rosemary), of Chicago, Rodney Geter (Carolyn), of Springfield, Mo., Kerry Mertz (Hank), of Fenton, Mo., Caryl Clark, of St. Louis, seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Services: The family will greet friends at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Rd., from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 1. A funeral service will be held at Kutis at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 2. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Crestwood Baptist Church or to the Judith L. Lavin Memorial Scholarship at the University of Missouri. – See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/stltoday/obituary.aspx?n=jewel-geter&pid=176297602&#sthash.11G9tiy6.dpuf
