Deters, Charles J. “Chuck”

Charles J Deters (Chuck) of Green Park, Missouri passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at the age of 93. Chuck died peacefully in his home with his children by his side.

Chuck was born in Lemay Missouri on April 8, 1927, to father Leopold John and mother Anna Rose Deters. The fourth oldest of Eleven brothers and one sister, Chuck didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. He joined the Navy at 16 years old after his second oldest brother was killed in World War II. He served on the USS Pasig until the end of the war then served in the reserves until April 1952.

After the war, Chuck wanted to be an airplane mechanic, but times were tough and he ended up working as a Flyboy at the St. Louis Post Dispatch.  He worked his way up through the Pressroom to eventually becoming a journey man Photo Engraver.

One evening Chuck picked up his brother Richard and his date along with her friend to give them rides home.  Richard’s date’s friend, Rosemary Doering later married Chuck on November 24, 1951.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, wife and eight of his brothers. He is survived by two brothers, one sister; and by his children Elaine Marie Deters Dunn (Tim), Ronald Charles Deters (Lori) and Patricia Ann Deters Metzler (Charles); grandchildren Matthew (Alicia), Patrick (Trish), Chad (Molly), Katie (Brian), Lauren (Tony), Kristen, Nicole (Bobby), Gabe, Trevor, Sam and Eight Great Grand Children.

A visitation for Charles will be at Kutis Funeral Home at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road 4pm to 8pm, on July 14, 2020   Funeral on Wednesday, July 15th at 9:30am for prayers at Kutis followed by 10am Mass at St. Simon the Apostle, 11011 Mueller Road, then to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery for Burial.
