Cova, Lorraine A.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Lorraine A. Cova, (née Specht), devoted mother to her beloved son, Frederick G. Amad, passed away at age 89.
Lorraine was born on March 2, 1931, in St. Louis, MO to George Specht, Jr., and Rachel Specht (née DeWandle). Lorraine attended Woerner Elementary School and Cleveland High School. She worked as a secretary and as a real estate agent to raise her only child, Fred.

Lorraine had a passion for teaching Tai Chi and swim classes at the YMCA. She dabbled in oil painting and loved to travel. She was also an avid dancer, who, in her youth, once danced at the Muny, and, during her 50’s and 60’s, won medals in Ballroom dancing. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. Lorraine was always friendly and warm, developing friendships with all she met.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt, and friend to many.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her father, George H. Specht, Jr., and her mother, Rachel Specht Knoop; her brother, George H. Specht III; her sister, Marilyn Simpson; her brother-in-law Leroy Simpson; her great-nephew, Sean N. Engel; and cousins Jean Haas and Lynn Caito (née Demartino).

Lorraine is survived by her son, Frederick G. (Christine M.) Amad; her two grandsons, Frederick C. Amad and Christian F. (Tracie R.) Amad; her four great-grandchildren, Ava E., Samuel F., Frederick K., and Grace E. Amad; her nephew, Leroy Garry (Mary) Simpson, her great-nieces Laurie Dothage (née Simpson), Sarah Simpson, and Christine Lim (née Simpson); her nephew, Robert (Mary) Simpson; her great-niece, Jessica Dun; her niece, Debra Etling (née Simpson); her great-niece Rachel Rueter; her great-nephew Robert Rueter; her great-niece, Rebecca Capriglione (née Simpson); her niece, Kathy Engel (née Specht); her nephew, George H. Specht IV; and her sister-in-law Rosalee Specht.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020. at Kutis Funeral Home (10151 Gravois Rd.) from 4 to 7 pm.

Private burial.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Mercy Hospice South-DeGreef Hospice House.

  3. Fred, I am so very sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. She sounds like she was an amazing lady and that she really enjoyed life. I am sure she will be truly missed. God bless and prayers to all of you.
