Cap-Miller

In Loving Memory

Casper “Cap” J. G. Miller

98, of Byrnes Mill passed peacefully to his heavenly home January 28, 2022.  He was born December 6, 1923 in Ancell (now Scott City), Missouri, the son of Casper J. and Emma J. (Walter) Miller.

Cap served with the U.S. Army as a tank and landing craft instructor during World War II and in occupational forces in Japan after the surrender. He reached the rank of Second Lieutenant. In 1946 he married Gloria Other of St. Louis and the couple soon settled in High Ridge, MO, buying a 42-acre farm with every bit of their savings. There they raised two sons, David and Paul. The family transferred to Omaha, NE in 1961 where their third son, Robert, was born. They returned to Missouri in 1971 where Cap took a management position at Six Flags that had him overseeing the warehouse, purchasing department, and wardrobe department. Cap had a strong work ethic and took satisfaction from performing any job with the utmost integrity. After Gloria’s death in 1983, he married Viola Gessel whom he had known for many years through their association at Hope Lutheran Church. Cap retired from Six Flags in 1988 which allowed the couple time to enjoy traveling. Cap had a lifelong passion for horses and all things cowboy related. His ability to perform an auctioneer’s banter, along with his sunny personality, made him a natural auctioneer for charity events. He also enjoyed golf and can boast to have shot a whole-in-one on two separate occasions. Cap can best be defined as a devout Christian who practiced the tenets of the Lutheran Church in which he was baptized and in which he held an unwavering faith all his life.

He is proceeded in death by his wife Gloria, wife Viola, son Paul, and granddaughter Tammy.

Cap is survived by two sons: Dave (Linda Marc) Miller, and Rob (Christine) Miller; daughter-in-law Janet Miller; stepson Mike (Jan) Gessel and stepdaughter Pat (Kate Raeber) Gessel; grandchildren: Erin (Michael) Nesti, Maggie (Anthony) Kuhn, Maura Miller, Shannon (Corbin) Pugh,  Kevin (Megan) Miller, Miranda (Jesse) Payne, Olivia (Shane) Pendleton, Drew Miller, Carson Miller, Ryan (Wynter) Gessel, Brad (Charis) Gessel, and Janet (Karl Younger) Estes; 6 dear great grandchildren, dear nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 4th, 4:00pm to 8:00pm, at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 5th at 1:00pm (12:30 visitation) at Hope Lutheran Church, High Ridge, followed by burial in St. Paul’s Churchyard. Masking is requested at visitations and at the funeral. Memorials may be made to Feed My People, 3295 Ottomeyer Rd, High Ridge, MO 63049-3144.
