Calloway

In Loving Memory

Calloway, Gloria A.

Calloway, Gloria A., (nee Carlson) of Imperial, MO, Passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 23, 2021, with family by her side.

Beloved wife of the late Jerry Calloway for 51 years; Loving mother of Tara (Chris) Archer and Tracy (Matt) Ladd; Proud and cherished grandmother of Caden, Trenton, Addison, Nolan and Lucy; Sister to Judy (Jerry) Sandberg and the late Donna (Dick) Anderson; Sister-in-law to Jackie (late Gayle) Calloway and Kay (late Keith) Calloway and the late Pat (Wilbur) Deskin and Marvin Calloway. Treasured aunt to many nieces and nephews, cousin and friend.

Gloria was born on January 17, 1935 to Elmer and Alma (Johnson) Carlson in Monterey, Minnesota. She grew up with her two sisters living the farm life in Minnesota. Gloria attended business school and worked for Bunge Corporation for over 40 years before retiring. Gloria and Jerry loved to travel and after retirement they enjoyed many cruises and winters in Florida.

Gloria was a graceful woman with an infectious smile. She had a strong faith and was compassionate and resilient. She was still living independently in the home she raised her family until her death. Gloria was a great cook, she loved to read and chat over coffee with her daughters. She loved spending holidays and summer vacations together with her family. She would often say that one of her greatest joys in life was time with her grandkids.

  1. What a lovely obituary. For such a lovely kind and gentle lady. Gloria certainly did light up a room with her smile. You couldn’t help but smile back. And that lifted your mood and made you feel good.
We love you Gloria. Until we meet again …

  3. Gloria was a long time patron of our library branch. She had been one of my home bound delivery patrons for over a year. We loved both her and Jerry. Gloria was such a sweet, kind lady and I just loved talking with her every week and getting her books that she loved to read. We will all miss her dearly.

  5. Gloria was pure joy. Always fun to be around. I remember one time, about 10 years ago, my Mom was talking to her on the phone from my apartment in Urbandale, IA. My Mom, Judy, was laughing so hard that she started coughing. I looked into the room to make sure all was ok and my Mom was just there laughing like she was talking to a bunch of high school girlfriends. I don’t think my Mom and Gloria could talk to each other for more than 2 minutes without them laughing.

  7. I had the joy and privilege of knowing Gloria for a very short time but I thank God for getting to know her. I picked her up for church each Sunday morning and even after the very first time I picked her up, I felt like I had gained a new and lasting friend. I will certainly miss her but am sure that I will see her again in Heaven. Praying for her beloved family and grandchildren as they walk through this time of grieving.

  9. I had the privilege of working with Gloria for 40 years at Bunge. Gloria was a friend and we kept in contact after we both retired. Gloria treated Debbie and I and our four sons like family. We exchanged stories about her two daughters and our four sons. We feel fortunate to have known Gloria and Jerry and more important how she touched our lives as she did with so many of her friends.
