  21. Sorry to hear about Mary. She worked with my husband, John Smick at Grand and Gravois Schnucks. John spoke very highly of her and I remember her from the get- togethers that the store had during those years. She had a great smile and a great personality. Those were nice memories.

  27. I loved Mary as soon as I met her years ago. She asked me over 50 years ago “Who is that cute guy?” I looked over and I saw Michael Buttons. I said “you want me to introduce you?” Michael is 1 of my brother Bobby’s best friends. It was tricky. but the date must have went well. They married. I want Michael and his family to know that my heart is heavy, heavier than you all would know. Mary always treated me good. I remember when I saw her at HODAK’S with her sister and she let me feel her heart beat. yes, right in Hodak’s. We always laughed when we saw each other. She was loved by many, I know that. Everybody loved Mary. She was always so compassionate , sincere, helping others, always a smile, ….I want to say 1 more thing. I am sad for the Button family but I am also sad in my heart for Mary’s best friend, Laura. They were best friends for over 45 years. I believe that first date was a double date with my brother and his wife Laura. I am so sorry Button family. Everyone has lost a good friendship. Mike, I am sending a virtual hug and I hope you feel it.

  35. Our deepest sympathy goes out to your family. Such a happy person with a bubbly personality. We ran into her a couple years ago at Ted Drews, Oh how she loved seeing my Mom and Aunt Joan and told me how much I looked like my Mom. I always think of The Buttons when I ride by the house on Gustine. Mary will be in our prayers

  41. I worked with Mary at Schnucks in South City. What an amazing, fun loving personality ti work with. When I got off work at 5 o’clock on my 21st birthday, she bought me my first legal 12 pack. I’ll never forget her. To quote Dr. Seuss, “Cry because it’s over, but smile because it happened.” Mary happened, and those who knew her were better for it.
