  1. Dear Berra Family,
I first met Nancy in 1976 when I was a Pixie (pre-brownies)mother for my daughter Amy and Nancy would bring Janel over for meetings. Each time she would pick up Janel, she would stay longer and we would talk and talk and talk. I liked Nancy right away. Soon we became close friends. We would walk the track at the high school and never did we seem to be at a loss for words. Nancy was a true and cherished friend. One winter when I visited her in Florida, I taught your mother and Marilyn Piachek how to play MahJongg. We spent a lot of time together enjoying the game. Your mother was like a sister to me. When I lived at the lake of the Ozarks and I developed cancer, I stayed at my daughter’s Amy’s house, in St Louis during the week to get radiation treatments. Nancy called me and said “you can’t stay there all the time, they are newly weds. Come every other week and stay with me”. I’m not sure she ever discussed it with John, but he was so very nice and accepting of my visits. Then Nancy said, no one has ever spent the night except family. I was truly blessed to be your mother’s friend. I considered her to be my very best friend and still do despite the fact that I wasn’t able to see her the last few years. As Janine said, Covid was a difficult time for many people and it effected them differently. I will always cherish my many memories of her and meeting the three wonderful children that she raised and loved more than life itself.

  3. I just saw found out Mrs Berra passed. I loved Mrs Berra – growing up in my younger years, I had tons of memories of the two Berra homes in the 70s. I would spend night after night at the Berra home with Janel – Mrs Berra was always so kind and so much fun. She would break up Janel and Janine fighting while still keeping her mom sense of humor. She had a tone of how she would say each daughter’s name – I was able to tell if she was mad or expressed her caring and love to her kids. She treated me and my family as part of her own. Mrs Berra created an atmosphere of always being yourself and made you feel like you mattered. Memories of a shamrock pool, snakes in the pool, watching Grease, not going into Mr Berra’s office that was off limits but we snuck in, July 4th parties (drinking tons of pop cans), and her being a cheer mom with my mom, which was funny bc my mom and Mrs Berra spent a lot of time laughing and having a good time when there. Mrs Berra was a remarkable person and I am so grateful for the time I knew her when I was young.
