Yu, Remedios “Remy” Abinoja

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on October 30, 2021, Remedios “Remy” Abinoja Yu passed away at the age of 79. . Beloved wife of Antonio “Tony” Yu; loving mother of Adrian (Michele) Yu and Tracy (Leon) Stronsky; cherished “Lola” of Ava, Evan, Sofia, Owen, Stella, Noah and Ania Lee; dear sister of Conrado, Amado, Mercedes, Patricia, Trinidad and the late Antonio, Jose, Manuel and Adoracion Our dear sister-in-law, aunt, Ate, cousin and friend to many.

Remy graduated with a BSN from the University of Santo Tomas, College of Nursing. She immigrated to the United States from the Philippines in 1964 when she was just twenty-two years old. She obtained her Masters in Education at Loyola University Chicago, while working as a full-time nurse. She became a professor of Nursing at the Lutheran School of Nursing, rising to the esteemed role of Curriculum Coordinator, only second to the Dean. She spent the majority of her nursing career at the VA, caring for Veterans for twenty-six years. Remy was devoted to her Catholic faith. She was a faithful member of the Mary, Mother of the Church parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and a Children’s Liturgy of the Word instructor. Through her quiet strength and kind leadership, Remy built loving and caring communities within her church, her workplace, and her home.

Services: Funeral from Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., on Monday, November 8, 10:30 a.m. to Mary Mother of the Church for 11 a.m. Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu  of flowers, donations to Miriam School and Learning Center in St. Louis, MO  https://www.miriamstl.org/miriam-school/or Chicago Children’s Choir appreciated. https:////www.ccchoir.org//support
