Dorothy grew up on a small farm in Southern Iowa. She rode a pony “Beauty” back and forth to a one room school house until high school. The high school was located in Chariton, IA. Because of the distance from the farm, she lived in a boarding house during the school year and could only come home on weekends. After high school, she soon married and moved to Kirksville, MO. From there, Kansas City is where she started a family. There was a brief time spent in Granite City, IL, but then back to Kansas City where she raised her two children Sherri and Steve. In the early 70’s, with both children now in school, Dorothy worked for the North Kansas City School District, Farmland Industries, and AT&T. At 63, she retired from AT&T and moved to Saint Louis. Anyone that knows Dorothy knew that she could not stay retired. It was not long until she had secured a job at Macys (May Company) and worked until she was 73.
Dorothy or Mimi, as she was called after she had grandchildren, really did not have any hobbies other than she did love flowers. Sometimes in the summer, she would just go to the store to look at them. Her entire life was devoted to taking care of her children and grandchildren. She worried about all of us constantly and would do anything, anytime to assist us. Dorothy, made many sacrifices over the years on material possessions for herself to provide for her family. Mimi, always taught us all to work hard, strive to be the best at everything that we do, and most of all, be nice to others. She will be missed and thought of everyday.
