Marion W. Hollander, 89, formerly of Marissa, IL, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2019.

Marion was born on September 11, 1929 in Lanes Prairie, MO to John W. and Rachel F. (Pruitt) Hollander. He was married to Vernita Jane Hollander for 53 years before her passing in 2012. He is survived by his two sons, John (Karen) and Michael (Stephanie) and grandchildren, Brandon (Katherine), Elijah and Eleanor; his sister Anna (Bill)Dahlin; and ten nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his daughter Lisa, his parents, and his sister Gladys.

Marion graduated from Owensville (MO) R-1 High School in 1947. After serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at the University of Missouri, where he also did graduate work in mathematics and physics under a grant from the National Science Foundation. In 1965 he graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with a Master of Science degree in Secondary School Administration. He taught physics and general science at Riverview Gardens and Pattonville School Districts in St. Louis and New Athens, IL, was a High School Principal at Monroe City (MO) HS and Platte City (MO) HS and an Assistant Superintendent at New Athens School District. He also was appointed to complete an un-expired term on the Riverview Gardens Board of Education. Marion was a member of various church congregations where he often sang in the choir with his wife. He also served his communities through various service organizations. After retirement, Marion stayed busy running a tax preparation business and providing accounting services for various local businesses.

A memorial visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until time of Service 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 27 at the Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63129. It was Marion’s wishes that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
