Mathias Fett was born on September 24, 1926 in Sacalaz (Sackelhausen), Romania, a mostly German village of the Banat region. The family were farmers.
At the end of WWII, when Mathias was 17, the Donauschwaben was expelled from the area. He and his family left their hometown and spent the next 5 and 1/2 years as refugees in eastern Europe and Salzburg, Austria.
In 1950, Mathias, his sister Katherine and her husband Josef immigrated to the U.S. He met and married Elisabeth Mueller in St. Louis in 1952 and had three children.
He trained and worked as a machinist and retired from John Ramming Machine Company.
Mathias was a longtime member of and volunteer at the German Cultural Society of St. Louis.
Mathias was preceded in death by his wife Elisabeth, his parents Katherina and Friedrich Fett, and his sister Katherine (Josef) Martin. He is survived by his children Karl (Anne Marie) Fett, Walter Fett, and Elizabeth (Henry) Young; his grandchildren Jessica Fett, Erica (Eric) Fett, and Mathias, Mark and Alexander Young; and his great-grandchild Ethan.

Services:Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois, Thursday, April 11, 4-8:00 .p.m and service Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.
