88, passed away peacefully Friday, May 25, 2018 in St. Louis, MO.

Beloved husband for 68 years of Yvonne C. Hancock; loving father of Randy (Brenda), John III, Glenn (Cindy), Bruce and Scott (Bonnie) Hancock; beloved grandfather and great-grandfather.

John was born in St. Louis, MO and  graduated from Soldan High. He entered the Marines and was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring in 1970, he returned to St. Louis where he worked for University City, SLU, was the Deputy Director for St. Louis County Civil  Preparedness, served as a Director of Police Community  Relations and ultimately retired from civil life as Director of  Security for the Missouri Botanical Garden.

He was an avid genealogist, traced innumerable family trees back multiple generations, arranged family reunions for  decades and would frequently welcome new members into the family by providing them with a multi-generation family tree as a gift.

Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois, Thursday, May 31, 12:30 p.m. Interment Jefferson Barracks  National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the  Missouri Botanical Garden or Salvation Army appreciated. Visitation Wednesday, 4-8 p.m.
